latest weather report states a huge snowstorm in America
A large storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall to America’s east coast this weekend with more than 75cm of snow falling.
The American National Weather Service has estimated 50 million people are living in areas covered by winter weather warnings, watches and advisories, from New York to South Carolina and west to Kansas.
The Channel’s forecaster Ari Sarsalari predicted Saturday would be “an absolute mess” adding that travel will be “literally impossible anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic region.”
The National Weather Service said Washington DC could see 70cm of snow by Sunday night.
The capital is at the centre of a sprawling winter storm that’s forecast to cover at least 15 states with snow from Friday afternoon, with the heavy weather continuing well into Sunday night.
America’s National Weather Service is warning citizens to make preparations ahead of the blizzard.
Blizzard warnings have been issued for the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas, meaning hazardous weather is occurring, or will very shortly.
The Philadelphia area and New York City are on blizzard watch, which is a level down.
Washington DC’s transport systems will be shut down for the weekend. No trains are due to run after 11pm and the buses will stop at 5pm. It comes after a couple of centimetres of snow paralysed the city’s transit networks earlier this week.
