CyanogenMod is a custom ROM for Android devices. It’s free, and it extends the capabilities of your device with themes, dramatically improved privacy functionality, and all sorts of UI/UX tweaks. If you have a rooted device, installing CyanogenMod is incredibly easy. The CM team created an app calledCyanogenMod Installer that lets you download and flash the ROM with minimal technical knowledge. We will walk you through it here. Be sure to backup your data before you proceed.
For this guide you will need:
- Root access
- Unlocked bootloader
Step 1: Download CyanogenMod Installer
from your Android device and download the .apk file.
Step 2: Enable Unknown Sources
Go to Settings > Security > Check Unknown Sources
Step 3: Install the App
Open the .apk file that you downloaded earlier, and install it.
Step 4: Follow the instructions
The CyanogenMod Install app will provide simple instructions. It will guide you to downloading the appropriate ROM for your device and flashing it through your recovery.
The rest is up to you! Follow the simple instruction in the app and you’ll be running CyanogenMod before your feet turn into hands and you walk upside down.
